ONLINE SUPPORT GROUP FOR MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE VICTIMS
Ronnie Lee Phillips is a great husband, father, uncle, brother, cousin and friend. He was a very active person in life with his job, fishing, sports and all of the outside work at our home. During the summer of 2012, he was having a slight pain in his lower abdomen. After several doctor appointments and multiple tests, a tumor was found. After one consultation and with no other options given, a surgery was scheduled. The surgery was said to be routine with three to four days in the hospital. No major risks or complications were discussed, nor any mention of excess bleeding, or close proximity to the vena cava. Ronnie did not have any pre-existing conditions.

In September 2012, an average healthy young man, by the name of Ronnie Phillips, went for a scheduled tumor removal in the retroperitoneal area. During the surgery, the vena cava was severed causing him to go into cardiopulmonary arrest twice on the table and as a result, Ronnie lost over 70 units of blood. Ronnie was saved by a vascular team that was not a part of the original surgical team, What would have been a three day stay turned into sixty days in the hospital, and fifteen of those days were in The Intensive Care Unit . Multiple surgeries followed due to the surgeon's incompetence and poor judgement. As a matter of fact, over five major surgeries followed.
Ronnie's life had been changed for the worst due to poor planning on someone else's part.
To say that the last six years have been difficult, is an understatement. Ronnie endured multiple complications in the aftermath of the careless surgery. Due to the nature of blood loss and lack of blood getting to his right leg, Ronnie had another surgery in which his right leg was amputated. Ronnie was now left both physically and mentally drained, as he learned to walk again with the help of a prosthetic. After learning how to walk again and a year of recuperation, Ronnie lost his job as a Campus Police Officer.
